LCV promotes clean water with Stream Link Education!

Featuring John Smucker,Stream Link Education!

One of Maryland’s greatest treasures are our rolling hills and vast fields of farmland that are throughout our great state. In order to combat the climate crisis and improve our water quality, we need farmers to sustainably utilize their land.

One of the programs that helps farmers use sustainable practices to manage their land are the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and the Conservation Reserve and Enhancement Program (CREP).

These critical programs are implemented through a large federal bill called the Farm Bill. And right now, the Farm Service Agency under the US Department of Agriculture is accepting comments until February 4 on this important rulemaking.

Support local farms, submit a comment today, and tell the Department of Agriculture we all need to work together to make sure farmers have the resources they need>>

We are asking you to tell the Farm Agency to follow the legislation passed in the 2018 Farm Bill, specifically:

  • Cover the costs to farmers to plant and maintain forests near waterways.
  • Increase the incentives to make these voluntary programs
  • Ensure stability of the programs
  • Help the farmers get the technical assistance they need.
  • Do not impose an arbitrary 30% ‘match” on partners, let farmers negotiate better deals.
  • Get rid of the red tape that is preventing some farmers from joining these essential programs.

Thank you for your support,

Ben Alexandro, Maryland LCV
Water Policy Director
